AbstractThis illustrated article describes the contents of the Japanese rare book collection acquired from Joseph K. Yamagiwa by the University of Illinois Library in 1969. The collection is housed in the Library's Rare Book Room. The article places the collection in the historical context of the Tokugawa Period (1600-1868), with emphasis on the history of the book in Japan.
