AbstractPresentation from the Conference, Etched in Memory, Legacy Planning for Artists, held at the Institute for Women & Art, Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, March 20, 2009. Ron Becker, Head of the Special Collections at the Rutgers University Libraries discusses preservation of the artists' legacy from an archival perspective, including the types of materials to be preserved, issues of privacy and copyright, and practical steps to conserve their legacy materials at home. He also recommends organizing the collection and notes that a well-organized collection will be much more appealing to libraries and archives that are considering accepting the papers. Finally, he discusses digital and fragile formats, such as magnetic tape.
